A Good Friend

I have a friend that has been a close brother to me for quite some time now. I respect him because of his intellect, because of his prudence, and also because he has cooked for me many great meals without once asking me to do the dishes. This friend of mine has blessed me today. He touched my heart and my soul. In fact, he helped me come part of the way back around to what God has called me to do and to be.

For some time now I have forgotten what it is that I am to do, but when I hear the simple truth in the words of my friend I am reminded of the fact that my job, my call, my vision is to be a person who can navigate through all of the muck and mire that we as people create for ourselves and get straight to the point of what life is about. For me that point is that we are all connected (I don’t mean that in the existential I Heart [symbol removed] Huckabees way). We are all connected by the fact inside of all of us is a sense of something greater. To me that is God, and because of that I want to share my god with everyone else.

But here is the very simple truth: My God is MY god. He is not necessarily your god. He can become your god, but only when you choose to establish God as your god. And I don’t want to sell that to anyone any more. No, I would rather live my days out defending the rights of others and being what God has called me to be. Someday maybe then I might have a more powerful message than "trust MY god," and maybe that message will be: I live as I do because I believe that this is the way we were created to live and it is my faith that predicates my actions. So choose as you wish. . .

But back to my friend. I want to say, “Thank you,” to a man who sometimes is misunderstood, but who truly knows and understands what he was created for. Thank you, Omar, and be blessed for all of your days.
